What to ask before relying on recovery coverage
Connect business priorities, backup evidence, and restore expectations.
Teams discussing Managed Backup & DR or reviewing recovery requirements.
1. Name what needs to be recoverable
Begin with the business process and the workloads it depends on. Include the important relationships between applications and data rather than assuming that one protected component makes the whole process recoverable.
Describe the consequences of interruption and data loss in practical terms. Those requirements help frame a discussion of recovery objectives; this guide does not set those objectives for you.
2. Ask for workload-specific coverage evidence
A connected backup provider, a recommendation, or a catalog entry does not prove that a particular workload is protected. Ask which resources are included and what evidence shows that the relevant backup activity occurred.
Check the scope and time period of any job history. Missing history should be treated as missing evidence, not converted into a claim of successful protection.
3. Agree objectives and responsibilities explicitly
Discuss the recovery-point and recovery-time requirements appropriate to the workload and business process. Ask what assumptions, dependencies, and exclusions would affect the proposed service scope.
Identify who initiates a restore, who approves it, and who validates the recovered application or data. The existence of backup data alone does not decide those responsibilities.
4. Distinguish a backup result from a restore result
Ask what a proposed restore test would cover and how success would be assessed. A test should have an agreed scope, authorization, and a way to verify the result without creating an unapproved production change.
Record the date, workload, and limitations of any test evidence. A successful test under one set of conditions is not a universal guarantee for every future incident.
5. Make gaps visible before making commitments
Summarize the workloads covered, the evidence available, and unresolved dependencies. Use that record to decide what still needs scoping or verification.
Managed Backup & DR is catalog-backed. No tested-restore result or recovery guarantee is established by this marketing content. Use the guide to ask for the evidence and commercial definition appropriate to your environment.
- Name workloads and business dependencies.
- Confirm actual coverage and relevant history.
- Agree recovery objectives and owners.
- Ask for appropriately scoped restore evidence.
- Record unresolved gaps before relying on coverage.
