Turn an advisory conversation into a decision brief

Give stakeholders, options, constraints, and requested outputs a clear structure.

Teams exploring Strategic Advisory, additional advisory time, or Vantage vCISO+.

1. Name the decision you need to make

Start with a concrete choice: which technology priority should come first, how a proposed service would fit the organization, or what information is missing before a governance decision.

Describe why the decision matters now and who is affected. A clear decision is easier to scope than an open-ended request for strategy, and it helps distinguish advisory work from a technical investigation.

2. Identify who needs to participate

List the person accountable for the decision and the people who contribute business, technical, financial, or operational context. Include external dependencies where they could constrain the options.

Ask which participants and advisory personnel are proposed for the engagement. A plan name does not establish that a particular role or individual is retained for your organization.

3. Bring options and assumptions into view

Write down the options already under consideration, including doing nothing for now if that is a genuine choice. Record the constraints that matter, such as available internal capacity, existing commitments, or dependencies on another project.

Separate known facts from estimates. Advisory work can help clarify a decision, but an unsupported assumption should not become a promised saving, outcome, or compliance claim.

4. Agree the output and time allocation

Discuss what would make the engagement useful: a decision record, a prioritized set of questions, a comparison, or another specifically agreed deliverable. Ask how review and follow-up would work.

Extra 4 Advisory Hours is a named capacity pack, not evidence of included plan hours or unlimited access. Confirm eligible use, personnel, scheduling, and commercial terms before relying on additional time.

5. Record what remains with your team

Capture the chosen direction, unresolved questions, and the owner of each next step. Advice, approval, and execution are separate responsibilities; the engagement should explain their boundaries.

When exploring Vantage vCISO+, use this same discipline to ask about governance scope and proposed deliverables. Do not infer staffing, certification, or an audit result from the product name.
